Teacher's Frequently Asked QuestionsAre there currently any job openings for the 2006-2007 school year?At this time, all positions have been filled. Please check our website often for employment opportunity updates. We will add positions to this site whenever they become available.
When will you begin hiring teachers for the 2007-2008 school year?We will begin the interview process in January. As with any school, our teacher allotments are based upon the number of students enrolled. What makes our situation unique is that our enrollment will be based upon the number of scholarships raised; we expect to have a clear picture of this in January of 2007.
Will there be support and substitute positions available as well?Possibly. Please continue to check our website—any openings will be posted here.
Will there possibly be part-time positions available?Yes. We will most likely have part time positions for art, music, physical education, and Spanish teachers.
Do teachers need a valid teaching certificate in order to apply? All core academic teachers must be certified. We will consider teachers without certification for our part-time positions, but these teachers must have teaching experience.
What kind of teachers is RCA looking for?We are looking for passionate, innovative educators who are masters at their craft. We are interested in teachers who teach the curriculum in unique and inspiring ways and who have an understanding of the type of learners we will serve.
Is it okay to submit an application now, even though positions are not yet posted?Yes. Applications are available for download on this site. Please be sure to include a videotape with your application.
What should be on the videotape?Your videotape should show you interacting with your students. It should give us a “feel” for the type of classroom you have. It should accurately reflect your teaching style. Please do not hire a professional service to tape you; we are not concerned with fancy videography—we just want to see you in action! Please be aware that items will not be returned to you, due to the volume of applicants.
Can I include additional items with my application?Absolutely. If you have photos or lessons you’d like for us to see, feel free to send them. Please be aware that items will not be returned to you, due to the volume of applicants.
What is the salary structure at RCA?Teachers will receive compensation that is comparable to salaries in our area. A pay-for-performance bonus system will also be a component of each teacher’s salary. Benefits will also be available; these will be discussed during the interview process.
What is the school calendar? What are the hours of operation? The school calendar will begin the first week of September of 2007. Major holidays will closely follow the calendar for Atlanta City and/or Fulton County Schools. The school day will run from 8:00-3:00 daily; an after school program will be available until 5:00 P.M. each day.
Will students at RCA really travel around the world?Yes. All students who attend RCA must be allowed to participate in our field trips around the world; these trips are integrated into our curriculum. As a result, we must have teachers who are able to take these trips as well! If you are uncomfortable with this, RCA is probably not a good fit for you.The projected travel plan is as follows: Washington, D.C. New York City London, England Paris, France Other places that we will visit in subsequent years: South Africa Japan Antarctica India Australia Students will also take frequent field trips in the Atlanta area each year.
Does RCA consider students with different types of learning needs?Yes. RCA selects students with varying academic levels. Students who are gifted, as well as average to slow learners and students who have ADD, ADHD, or other learning difficulties are eligible for admission. If a child has specific learning disabilities that require numerous accommodations, he/she might not be accepted due to our lack of resources at this time.
What type of students is RCA looking for?The admissions committee will select students who have untapped potential and who would benefit the most from the style of educational program we offer.
How many students will be accepted?Enrollment will be based on the number of scholarships that have been sponsored by individual and corporate donors at the time that the admissions acceptance letters go out.
How much is tuition?A sliding tuition scale can be found by downloading the Admissions Application. There is also a requirement for 40 community service hours at the school that parents must commit to completing each year.
Will Ron Clark be a classroom teacher?Yes. Ron will be a teacher at RCA, and his Essential 55 will be implemented school-wide.
Will RCA serve as a model for other schools?Yes. We will have frequent visitors. We want teachers who are comfortable with sharing their knowledge with other teachers and community members who come to visit.
