Student's Frequently Asked QuestionsWho is eligible to apply for admission to RCA?Any student who will be entering the 5th grade for the 2008-2009 school year is eligible to apply.
Does RCA consider students with different types of learning needs?Yes. RCA selects students with varying academic levels. Students who are gifted, as well as slow learners and students who have ADD, ADHD, or other learning difficulties are eligible for admission. If a child has specific learning disabilities that require numerous accommodations, he/she might not be accepted due to our lack of resources at this time.
What type of students is RCA looking for?The admissions committee will select students who have untapped potential and who would benefit the most from the style of educational program we offer.
How many students will be accepted?Enrollment will be based on the number of scholarships that have been sponsored by individual and corporate donors at the time that the admissions acceptance letters go out.
Will there be a waiting list?Yes. After acceptance letters are sent, several students will be placed on a waiting list. If additional openings are added, students will be taken from the waiting list.
What if my child isn't entering the 5th grade?Unfortunately, we will only be able to select students who are entering the 5th grade. Our goal is to make a tremendous impact on our students; therefore we have designed a four-year program of study. Students will not be admitted in grades six through eight.
Can I retain my child in the 5th grade so that he/she may apply to RCA?No, we will not allow a child to be retained simply to meet admission requirements.
How much is tuition?Click on monthly tuition scale to see the tuition scale that applicants can expect to pay. There is also a requirement for 40 community service hours at the school that parents must commit to completing each year.
Is it possible to pay full tuition to secure a spot for my child?Absolutely. Students who pay full tuition ($14,000 a year) and are selected by the eligibility committee will be considered for admission.
What is the school calendar? What are the hours of operation? The school calendar will begin the first week of September of 2007. Major holidays will closely follow the calendar for Atlanta City and/or Fulton County Schools. The school day will run from 8:00-3:00 daily; an after school program will be available until 6:00 P.M. each day.
Are there residency requirements for admission? No. However, the parent must provide transportation to and from the school. A Marta bus stop is located across the street from the school.
Will my child really travel around the world?Yes. All students who attend RCA must be allowed to participate in our field trips around the world; these trips are integrated into our curriculum. If a parent is uncomfortable with this, then RCA probably is not the right school for his/her child. The cost of every trip is included in the price of tuition; there will be no additional expenses for parents. The projected travel plan is as follows:The 5th and 6th grade classes:
Other places that we will visit in subsequent years:
Students will also take frequent field trips in the Atlanta area each year. |
