Wednesday, October 29, 2008TI visits the Academy
The Ron Clark Academy and its students continue to shine in the eyes of the media, receiving national attention after the release of their Presidential Election Song – “You Can Vote However You Like.” The political song which first popped up on YouTube led to a live performance by student on CNN – during Kyra Phillips afternoon newsroom show. Most recently, students received a special visit from someone who has close ties to the song. Atlanta’s own Clifford Harris – better known as T.I. – made a surprise visit to students at the Academy. After hearing about the students’ song, which uses background music from T.I.’s current hit “Whatever You Like,” the rap artist decided he’d like to stop in and ask students to perform the song for him live and in person. Students were ecstatic to perform the song in front of T.I., the original artist.
While at the Academy, T.I. shared with RCA students the importance of being disciplined about their education and making sacrifices now in order to achieve their long-term goals later in life. As with every guest, T.I. was Slide Certified, and is now an honorary member of the RCA family. It was, yet another, magical moment at the Academy!
The Academy received a special Halloween treat…ABC’s World News Tonight with Charles Gibson featured the Ron Clark Academy students as its “Person(s) of the Week.” The segment aired October 31st at 7:25 pm (EST). Other recent national media hits include People.com. A select group of RCA students will continue their media circuit over the weekend with a trip to the Big Apple to appear on even more national news programs. First up, they will perform live on Good Morning America first thing November 3rd. Students should appear in the first hour (7 -8 am (EST)) of the show. They’ll then tape a quick segment at the world famous Waldorf Astoria Hotel to be aired on Fox Business Network on November 3rd between 5 – 6 pm (EST) on the Fox Business Network. And then it’s off to CBS studios where students along with Ron Clark and Kim Bearden will appear LIVE on BET’s 106 & Park, which is scheduled to air at 6 pm (EST). WOW – We are truly thankful for all of this wonderful exposure and visibility! Even more so, we’re so proud of our students and all of their hard work and special talents. But please remember - NONE of this would be possible without help from our friends and supporters in the community. We are actively in the mode of raising funds so that our students have scholarships to attend our school. Please help us spread the word….come join the RCA family by making a donation today - Many Thanks! |
