The Ron Clark Academy Conquers a Blizzard in Utah

Salt Lake City, Utah, is known as a world class ski destination, having hosted the 2002 Winter Olympic Games.  Tourists travel to Salt Lake City to view spectacular sights of alluring and steep canyons along with the opportunity to experience some of the world’s best skiing.   For the sixth grade class of the Ron Clark Academy (RCA), it was a chance to enjoy Utah’s snow phenomenon and cultivate their skills on the slopes.

Each year, thanks to the generosity of donor Jeff Anderson and Audio Enhancement, RCA students travel to Salt Lake City, Utah, to experience fun in the snow.   Despite weather forecasts that predicted mild temperatures and no snow, the city was hit with a blizzard for the weekend.

With a fresh layer of snow on the ground, the first full day in Utah was spent visiting Audio Enhancement for a special presentation and lunch. Afterwards, students got a chance to experience snow tubing at Gorgoza Park.

“Steep hills with slick paths made a perfect environment for snow tubing,” said Candice Jordan, development coordinator at RCA.  “After tubing, everyone headed back to the cabin for an impromptu snow ball fight.”

Later, RCA set out for a day of snowboarding and skiing. Despite the fact most of them had never been to a ski resort, many of the students caught on quickly and were speeding down the mountain with ease.  Soon, many of the chaperones began to rely on the students for support.

On the last day in Utah, the students were invited to see a performance by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir as they sang traditional Christmas songs.

Said Jordan, “This was truly a rewarding experience, and one they will not forget.”
