Team Spirit Pitches In At Ron Clark Academy

Atlanta Spirit, parent company of the Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Thrashers and Philips Arena launched Team Spirit, a new company-wide employee volunteer program, with a kick-off event at The Ron Clark Academy on Wednesday, August 29.

"We are honored to lend our Atlanta Spirit human capital, as well as team and arena resources, to help bring this amazing facility to life," said Atlanta Spirit President and CEO Bernie Mullin. "Ron Clark's teaching methods are producing wonderful results among inner-city youth, and we proudly support the Academy's efforts to connect with each student as a means of opening up more young minds and increasing a child's capacity to learn."

Activities included a community clean-up and writing welcome notes for students. Atlanta Spirit employees participated along with former Hawks players Charlie Criss and Jim Washington and Thrashers players Johan Hedberg and Steve McCarthy.

Clark, an Atlanta Hawks season ticket holder, was named Disney’s American Teacher of the Year in 2000. Recently, he was portrayed by Matthew Perry in TNT’s original movie, The Ron Clark Story.
