Thursday, May 28, 2009Spirit DayMay 28, 2009 – RCA Spirit Day Are you a rock star? What about a middle school graduate? A teenager needing courage? Or perhaps you’re a poet or performing artist? These were all themes displayed during this year’s Spirit Day, a day-filled with fun and festivities. But most importantly, it’s the day when the House Champion is declared. Each House performs a skit and cheers before the entire school. A group of judges, made up of all faculty not affiliated with a House, then votes on the best performance. That House wins 10 points. The group of judges also selects the student who displays the most spirit for the day, which is based upon his/her costume. That student then earns 5 points for his/her house. The winner of the skit contest goes to…Reveur! Students from this House performed a beautiful skit with a moral theme and lesson. 10 points for Reveur.
And then it was time to spin the wheel, which can really alter the points. Before beginning, Altruismo was in the lead, Reveur was a close second, followed by Isibindi and then Amistad. After the wheel spins…each House gets two - one student spin and then an adult spin, the points are tallied and a winner is declared. Unfortunately, the wheel wasn’t gracious this year. No spinner received more than 10 or 15 points, so the lead never changed. Drum roll, please! So, this year’s winner is…ALTRUISMO! The reigning champs from last year had a steady lead going into Spirit Day, and they were able to keep that win throughout the day! Congratulations to Altruismo for your ever-giving spirit!
