RCA Students Perform on Broadway Stage

 1346

The group of RCA students who recently visited New York to accommodate busy media schedules also had a little down time while in the Big Apple.   So why not take in a Broadway show?  Thus, Mr. Clark and Mrs. Bearden treated the students to In the Heights, an incredible production detailing the cultural nuances of Washington Heights, a historically Hispanic neighborhood on the Upper Westside of Manhattan.

While there, students who prior to the trip had memorized and choreographed their version of the opening song in the show, were invited on stage to perform.  It was awesome!  The entire cast of the show was there and watched our students do their thing.  Many said they were blown away by our students’ confidence and talent.

Seeing In the Heights was extra special for RCA students because one of the lead actors, Robin De Jesus, visited the Academy earlier this fall.  He spoke to students in Mr. Clark’s classroom and shared with students his experiences of being a Broadway performer.  And yes…of course, De Jesus was “Slide Certified;” it’s an RCA tradition.  To have the opportunity to revisit with De Jesus (a Tony award-winner) on stage was really special. As is the case in life sometimes - things really do come full circle.
