Their smiles are infectious. Their joy is unimaginable…given all they have been through. The Ron Clark Academy was blessed with a special treat when the Watoto Choir visited the Academy for a day. In addition to sitting in class with RCA students, the choir also gave a special performance. And to top it all off, several RCA students had the opportunity to host the Ugandan children in their homes. Seventh grader Onyx Simpson shares her thoughts on the experience: “Special Visitors” – The kids from Uganda were just great people to be around. They love singing, dancing, and spreading the word of hope to people, so they can know what type of crisis is going on in Africa. I’m specifically talking about the HIV/AIDS crisis. For all of the children in the Watoto (which means children) Choir have lost a mother or father to HIV/AIDS.
When the Uganda children – Marie, Jackie, and their chaperone, Ms. Sandra, came to my house they were excited and ready for a wonderful day with me. After I went to track practice and had them all cheering me on, we went to Chuck E. Cheese. They said they had so much fun, partly because it was their first time going but also because they were with people who cared. While there, we offered the children to play as many games as they wanted. The Uganda children appreciated it so much, which made me feel even more honored to host them during their visit. I will always have a special place in my heart for them.
