Saturday, April 24, 2010RCA’s 3rd Comcast Cares Day! On Saturday, April 24, close to 100 Ron Clark Academy (RCA) students, parents, and staff joined other volunteers from across Atlanta to participate in a day of service sponsored by Comcast. Despite the wet weather, volunteers gathered bright and early at the Adams Park Recreation Center in Southwest Atlanta to begin a day of beautification and restoration projects, including: painting and cleaning the insider of the Center; replace door handles, light switch covers and bulletin boards; paint the tennis court, plant flowers and vegetables around the grounds; and replace mulch. In addition to RCA, Comcast volunteers partnered with YMCA members, Atlanta Urban League, 100 Black Men and the City of Atlanta.
Adams Park was one of thirty sites across the metro area that drew more than 1,000 local Comcast employees, their friends and families – all of whom volunteered to participate in Comcast’s ninth “Comcast Cares Day.”
At the same time across the country, more than 55,000 Comcast volunteers came together to participate in this annual day of service, which is one of the largest single days of corporate volunteer efforts in the country. Comcast Cares Day is one way that Comcast helps to demonstrate a year-round commitment to making a difference in the communities it serves.
“Each year, I am proud to join thousands of Comcast employees and volunteers participating in Comcast Cares Day projects across the country,” said Comcast Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brian L. Roberts. “It is truly inspiring to be a part of such a collaborative effort that helps so many people and organizations in the communities we serve.” “We’re so honored to partner with Adams Park Recreation Center to improve our community,” said Andy Macke, VP of Government and Community Affairs for Comcast’s Atlanta Region. “I’m grateful to the 1,000 Comcast Cares Day volunteers who will be donating their time to help make such a big difference in just a day.” “We work very hard to instill in our students the importance of civic engagement, so we look forward to participating in Comcast Cares Day each year,” said Ron Clark, Founder of the Ron Clark Academy. “It’s a perfect opportunity for our students to give back to the Atlanta community, which has been so supportive and generous to our school. We commend Comcast for organizing this day of service.”
The Comcast Foundation also provides grants to local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of each employee and family member who volunteers on Comcast Cares Day. The grants help Comcast’s community partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year.
