Ovie Mughelli Foundation Donates Green Athletic Field to the Ron Clark Academy

The Ron Clark Academy is challenging students to become stronger, both academically and physically.   On Tuesday, December 14th, the Ron Clark Academy, Ovie Mughelli Foundation, and other community leaders held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new outdoor play area.  Ovie Mughelli, a member of the Atlanta Falcons and founder of the Ovie Mughelli Foundation, donated the earth friendly playground and athletic field for the students of the Ron Clark Academy.

To combat childhood obesity together, the Ron Clark Academy and the Ovie Mughelli Foundation will address the physical education needs of students. The playground will also serve as a “green” facility, housing NewGrass, an industry-leading, artificial grass solution.

Mughelli, a full back for Atlanta’s NFL team, was rated by Planet Green.com as one of the top five Eco-Athletes in the world.  His foundation believes in developing youth socially, mentally, and physically by cultivating programs that educate youth about the environment. “The play area is part of a larger movement to do what we can to revitalize our planet,” said Mughelli.

“The Ron Clark Academy couldn’t be more thrilled with the donation of our new athletic field, and we are extremely grateful to the Ovie Mughelli Foundation for recognizing the importance of keeping our young people healthy and physically fit,” said Ron Clark, co-founder of the Ron Clark Academy.  “This field will enhance our athletic programs at RCA in enormous ways, and we are honored the donation is coming from Ovie Mughelli– a role model who makes the Falcons and all of Atlanta proud”.

The field is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2011.
