Meet & Greet for Incoming 5th Graders

This year’s new class of 30 fifth graders received a shiny “Golden Ticket” inviting them to a special event to be held in their honor.  When the day of the Meet and Greet finally came, new students were told to arrive at 12 pm on the dot – not a minute before or after.

As the group of students and their family members gathered, they found the gates to the Academy draped in black cloth.  There wasn’t a sound stirring from the other side.  It certainly didn’t appear to be a place where people were planning for a party.

And then BAMB!  When the clock struck the noon hour, up started the band!  The gates opened, the red carpet went rolling, and the cheerleading squad flipped into action.  Current RCA students, their parents, faculty, and staff were all there on the other side of the gates, awaiting the moment to welcome the newcomers.  Someone must have alerted the media, because even the wild and zany paparazzi showed up to capture a shot or two of these stars.  After the long stroll down the red carpet and lots of signing of autographs, it was time for some entertainment.

Current RCA students performed for the crowd and shared some insight into some of the secrets of the Academy, including the four Houses, one of which each new student will be placed in this fall.  It was an afternoon filled with food, fun and fellowship--a true meet and greet as the RCA family continues to grow!
