Saturday, August 27, 2011Girls’ Night Out - Class of 2012
![]() “An RCA lady-in-waiting exemplifies knowledge, resilience and character and, in her final year at RCA, is charged with imparting wisdom, demonstrating grace and modeling creativity for the student body.” In this the third year of Girls’ Night Out, the original purpose for this RCA tradition was reaffirmed in defining, celebrating and honoring the RCA lady-in-waiting. In signature style, the ladies of Class 2012 arrived and settled in for an evening where the Ladies of RCA presented them with scrumptious homemade favorites, surrounded them with vivid floral arrangements, bestowed thoughtfully chosen tokens and worked diligently to create an evening fit for royalty. Girls’ Night Out was originally inspired by Ntozake Shange’s For Colored Girls… where the characters in the choreopoem are identified by color; so this is how the eighth grade ladies-in-waiting ascend to leadership, in a celebration flanked by vibrant colors denoting their unique qualities.
Reflecting on each young lady, the Ladies of RCA offered the very words they live by to their young mentee. Every lady in the room reveled in this heartfelt moment tucking away some of the wisdom to keep for themselves.
And then the ladies giggled and primped as they assembled on the stairs for the photograph that has become part of the tradition, the magic of the evening about to be accentuated by the soulful voices of the talented actresses in the play, Three Sistahs, staged at the Horizon Theater. The sisters fought, laughed, cried and danced their way back to one another realizing that their sisters would strengthen and support them as they shaped lives reflective of their dreams.
And Class 2012 can expect the same of the brilliant ladies of RCA: unfaltering support as they work to make their dreams come true.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mrs. Barnes is grateful for the grace and brilliance exhibited by the fabulous ladies of RCA and would especially like to thank Ivonne Simms and Karina Cordisco for contributing to the success of a magical evening! And the evening was punctuated by the presence of our beloved Mrs. Goff who proudly celebrated the members of her Diva Division as prepared for their senior year.
