Congratulations are in order for the RCA Cheerleading team! The girls, ranging in grades 5th – 7th, participated for the first time in the National Cheerleading Association’s QUEST camp held for two and a half days on Georgia Tech’s campus. Not only did they participate, but they won several awards and certificates.
To begin the list of accolades, they won the Herkie Award-- this is the biggest overall award for those who best exemplify leadership, sportsmanship, and character. They also brought home the 1st place trophy for their dance routine, 2nd place for their cheer routine, and the huge, coveted Spirit Award (this is cool because all of the other squads voted for this). Two of our cheerleaders also made the All-American Squad—Aliyah Cofer and Rudy Elder. Our girls received superior ratings, and they have been invited to compete at nationals in Texas!
The camp, which has the same elements as a regular camp (cheers, jumps, stunts), also focuses on teaching the girls individualized choreography that can be used for competitions and half time performances. Camp was held all day from 8 am to 9 pm, and very action packed. The girls had a blast and enjoyed working with their NCA staff buddy Scotti. A big thank you and congratulations are in order for Ms. Lakesha Robinson, the girls’ cheerleading coach!
