Breaking News: CNN Student News Anchor Visits the Ron Clark Academy

The Ron Clark Academy (RCA) students watch CNN Student News every day to learn more about current events in the United States and around the world.  Carl Azuz, anchor of CNN Student News, is a familiar face that is as recognizable to them as their teachers.

For months, students have been following the latest in daily coverage from Azuz.  He also provides a softer side to the news with his “Off the Beaten Path” segments and blog, “From A to Z” with Carl Azuz. Adam Dovico, global studies and mathematics teacher at RCA, assigned eighth grade students with the task to write, produce and anchor a newscast, just like their idol Carl Azuz.

The class wasn’t aware that Dovico had a planned a surprise appearance by the CNN Student News Anchor.  On January 27, 2011, Azuz visited RCA and provided students with a high energy and informative presentation about the CNN Student News team.  The experience was life changing, when he entered the room, students screamed and cheered, excited about his arrival.

“We have a great group of people and we want to cover stories that impact you,” said Azuz.

Previously, Azuz held positions as a writer and associate producer for CNN International.  He also served as a page writer for CNN Interactive and wrote headlines for global distribution.

“Why just write news why not be the person telling people about it?” said Azuz.  He also admitted that news wasn’t his initial career choice.  “I thought I would be a movie producer,” he said.

Azuz also informed the promising reporters how to share story ideas with CNN and how to utilize social media platforms to communicate with the news desk.
