Friday, May 9, 2008Bank of America's Cheer TourA chosen group of RCA students were chosen to participate in a very special project this spring. The assignment was two-fold. Students were tasked with creating a cheer to support our summer Olympic hopefuls, while also learning the history of one of Atlanta’s most well-known streets – Sweet Auburn Avenue. The half day experience made possible by Bank of America. It’s all in conjunction with the banking giant’s Cheer Tour.
While American athletes are in Beijing for the Summer Olympics, Bank of America is traveling across the country, collecting shouts of support at its rolling Olympics kiosk. The idea is to collect as many cheers from all over the country in support of our USA athletes who will compete in the summer games. When Bank of America asked our students to get involved, they were thrilled. To see the cheer that RCA students wrote and performed, go to…this link.
Students also had the unique opportunity to speak with Sada Jacobson of Sandy Springs, a 2004 bronze medal fencer, who will compete in Beijing. Jacobson is one of Bank of America's "Hometown Hopeful" athletes who are traveling this summer promoting the Games. On hand were Milton Jones, president of Bank of America Georgia, and other Bank of America friends including: Shirley Mitchell, Carlester Crumpler, and Mary Ann Portt.
After performing their cheer and a light lunch, RCA students toured the Apex Museum, the Auburn Avenue Research Library, and the Atlanta Life Insurance Company.
