The Ron Clark Academy (RCA) partnered with Atlanta Thrashers forward Evander Kane to host a Hockey is for Everyone clinic at RCA on February 10, 2011.

Kane was joined by the mascot, Trash, and other members of the Thrashers development team who instructed a group of fifth and sixth grade students about the fundamentals of hockey and the value of team building.

The mission of the Hockey is for Everyone Clinic is to provide a positive image and meaningful outlet for children and teenagers as it pertains to developmental and street hockey programs.

Cheers filled the gymnasium as students from RCA displayed school spirit and pride.  It was an experience that was competitive and amusing; Thrash occasionally moved the goal cage and joined the students on the field.

“It was so much fun,” said Ashton Coleman, fifth grader at RCA.  “I wanted to continue playing with the hockey sticks.  I didn’t want to stop.”

The clinics showcase the talents of National Hockey League (NHL).   Kane, the Thrashers’ first round choice in (NHL) entry draft in 2009, answered questions from the students providing his expertise and advice on competing as professional hockey player.  His visit was an experience that teachers and administrators at the Academy believe will serve as a value to students.

“It was beneficial because it exposes our students to the game,” said Lazarus Bruner, physical education teacher at RCA.  “Hockey is growing in popularity in America, and for students to learn about the sport from a professional hockey player is outstanding.”

The Hockey is for Everyone Clinic has provided a unique hockey experience to more than 300,000 children in North America.
