Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Company Shares the Gift of Dance at Ron Clark Academy

The Ron Clark Academy (RCA) partnered with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater to celebrate 50 years of Revelations with a local dance class and performance.  The iconic ballet, Revelations, displays modern dance and showcases the artistry of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. The dance company provided instruction to 21 female students at RCA.

Clifton Brown led the dance class and taught students about the appreciation of dance and choreography.  Brown was trained at Take 5 Dance Academy, Ballet Arizona, and the New School for the Arts and Ailey School.  In 2007, Brown received a “Bessie” award in recognition of his commitment and contributions to the Ailey Company.

Students learned classic ballet and Horton techniques, showcased in the famous Ailey show.  RCA students were given the opportunity to see Brown perform during the opening night of Revelations at 50 at the Fox Theatre.

This season is an historic time; the group is lead by renowned artistic director Judith Jamison in her final year with the company.

“We are thrilled to share this exciting time in Ailey’s history,” said Jamison.  “We’re on a journey that began 52 years ago because of Alvin Ailey’s groundbreaking vision.  His Revelations is a profound manifestation of how dance can celebrate the human spirit and impact our hearts and minds.”

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater has been recognized by United States Congress as a vital American “Cultural Ambassador to the World.”  The company is currently on a 24 city tour.
