RCA’s Speech and Debate Team won big last weekend at the National Speech and Debate Association Competition. The event, which took place in Gainesville, Georgia, is a high school competition but has a middle school event. Each member of the team won a trophy in their competitions, which consisted mostly of the high school events.
Niles Boyd, an 8th grade student, placed 1st in the middle school Original Oratory and Impromptu Speaking event. Boyd placed 2nd in the overall high school event.
Jayde Dieu and Emmett Eckert, both also in 8th grade, placed 6th in the high school Public Forum Debate event, while 7th-grader Mason Calhoun placed 4th in the high school Humorous Interpretation event.
All four students qualified to compete at the national competition, which will be held in Salt Lake City.
